They’ll Be Dancing on the Buildings This Weekend

Rochester things to do

If your’e looking for things to do in Rochester NY this weekend, you picked the best possible time to get bored. Get on out and check out the first annual Fringe Festival, sponsored by First Niagara Bank. Just picture the talent, crowd appeal, and variety of the Jazz Fest, but with more spandex.

The Bill Evans Dance Company (founded by Brockport native Bill Evans) will be performing two shows at the Eastman School of Music, Sunday at 2:00p and 4:00p. Another local group, the Garth Fagan Dance Company, will be throwing open the doors of their downtown studio for live performances, evenings on Thursday through Saturday. And you won’t want to miss acrobatic sensations Bandaloop and Cirque du Fringe. In fact, it might be hard to miss them—one will be dancing on the side of the HSBC Building and the other will be in a giant Spiegeltent on Gibbs and Main.

But when it comes to stuff to do in Rochester NY this weekend, Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theater is where all the funny is. Iconic writer and comedian Dave Barry will be performing Friday at 8:00p. And comedian Marc Maron is back on tour, bringing his acerbic brand of humor and observation to the stage on Saturday at 8:00p.

Unlike Jazz Fest, the performance venues will be more spread out, so plan your days with a little more forethought. Due to the programmatic and rich narrative essence of many of the performances, some venues will not allow latecomers. For more information about the Fringe Festival, check out RochesterFringe.com.
